Remote Working Practices

We provide facilities for our employees to access the systems they need from anywhere at any time. This has multiple benefits for our business, employees and customers.

For the employee there's the benefit of flexibility to work from home when required giving better access to child care and a better work/life balance.

For the customer there's the benefit of faster service response times and quicker issue resolution.

The business benefit is a reduce our running costs and carbon footprint and an increase in our customer reputation and repeat business.

From a sales perspective we use remote working to broaden our geographical approach.  We can sell and support our products anywhere in the world increasing our contribution to the local economy.

Environmentally Friendly Printing

We removed our last toner based printer in 2006 and since then we have used waxed based printing on a duplex printer.  This, coupled with our strict printing policy, keeps our environmental impact through printing to its absolute minimum.

Low Power Systems & Server Virtualisation

We minimise the amount of server hardware by using server virtualisation.  This limits the amount of hardware we need and the associated energy consumption, improves our resilliancy and allows us to deploy new systems much faster with less associated risk.

In addition, all of our internal servers are fitted with solid state hard drives which offer a faster operational speed, less noise and less cooling because there are no moving parts.

Cloud Computing and Environmentally Friendly Data Centres

We use Google Apps for Business as a cloud computing solution for email, document storage and collaboration.  We choose Google because they provided the most cost effective solution and for the fact they are carbon neutral.  Google have a progressing sustainability policy when it comes to planning and building their data centres which ensures the growth and availability of their services long term.

Energy Policies

We monitor the energy consumption of our business at the equipment level.  This allows us to make many small changes that contribute to a greater overall reduction of energy consumption and carbon footprint.

We construct and implement automated energy management policies to automatically switch off equipment when its not in use.

Waste Management

We have a strict waste management policy designed to minimise and eventually eliminate our land fill.  All of our waste is segregated and recycled where possible.  All food waste is composted via a worm farm.

We measure how much we recycle and how much we commit to landfill to allow us to continually reduce our impact.

Building & Energy

Our building is built to the highest environmental standards and contributes greatly to reducing our running costs and environmental footprint. The building is made of wood from sustainable sources and has super insulated cavity walls with 13mm triple glazing.

Our electricity is provided by GoodEnergy who's supply is 100% from renewable sources.

Our Gas supply provides heating and hot water only.  We use a minimal amount of hot water and we have a very efficient underfloor heating system that keeps the temperature of the building constant.  The heating is timer and thermostatically controlled.

We use natural cooling for our server room so there are no additional costs or carbon footprint for air conditioning.
