Unified Communications - IP Telephony and convergence

What are they?

Unified communications, also often referred to as convergent technologies is a term used to describe a single hardware platform that provides Voice (Telephony), Data (Computing) and Video (Conferencing) solutions for business.  The term is also associated with the technology of Voice Over IP (VoIP) which is  method for transporting voice signals over a computer (internet protocol based) network.

Traditionally organisations have required separate infrastructure for voice, video and data.
