Green Computing Initiatives
19.06.2007 Age: 3 yrsHow Green are your computer systems?
With rising concern about climate changes and the impact businesses - both large and small - are having on the environment, an area often overlooked by the environmentally conscious organisation is computing technology.
As the thirst for faster, more efficient computing resources increases, “green” computing policies are rarely top of the list of ways to decrease a business’s carbon footprint and are often overlooked all together. With this in mind ICT consultants, Piran Technologies have launched a wave of green computing initiatives to help businesses achieve “Greener Computing”.
“From its inception, Piran Technologies has been conscious about the impact our industry has on the environment and the ways in which we might address this”, says Mark Wright, managing director. “We have introduced a range of services and initiatives to help like minded businesses reduce the impact their computing has on the environment and to save them money as part of the process. These range from simple advice on things like eco-friendly printing, to more complex processes like server virtualization and remote working practices, and are designed to compliment existing environmental management systems and contribute towards the ISO14001 standards for environmental management”.
As part of their normal consultancy, supply, installation and support of computer technology Piran Technologies plans to offer environmental audit of business computing systems to help organisations adopt green computing initiatives.
“So far “Greener Computing” has been well received and we have introduced several projects that have enabled customers to reduce running costs and the environmental impact of their computing systems. Traditionally, these projects are with larger organisations who have well defined environmental management policies, but there is no reason why smaller organisations can not benefit from our “Greener Computing” initiatives, and we hope this campaign will take these initiatives to a wider spectrum of businesses.”
